The University of New Mexico Women’s Soccer Team wraps up an exciting 2017 season with an overall record of 14-7, the most wins for the program since 2005, finishing second in the Mountain West Conference. UNM had four players earn All-Mountain West Honors with Sophore Jessie Hix being named to the All-Mountain West First Team while seniors Claire Lynch and Emily Chavez were named to the All-Mountain West Second Team. Junior transfer Jessica Nelson was named to the All-Mountain West Newcomer Team for the Lobos. In addition, UNM had a trio of players named to the All-Mountain West Tournament team in Senior Quincy Slora, Jurnior Jennifer Munoz, and Sophomore Jessie Hix.
In addition to excelling on the field, the UNM Women’s Soccer Team also excels in the classroom. The team finished the Spring 2017 semester with a team grade point average of 3.77, the best GPA in the history of the program. The mark continues the trend of academic success for the program, however. The Lobos have now posted a GPA of 3.4 or better for 11 straight seasons. Owning a 3.98 GPA in business administration, Senior Alexa Cabrales was named to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA All-District 7 First Team.
The high standard for the women's soccer program has been recognized over the years. Recently, 2016 graduate, Madision Irwin, went on to represent team USA in the World University Games. In addition, Cassie Ulrich went overseas to play in England while Brooke Webster went overseas to play in Sweden.
The Lobos look forward to the Spring season as they prepare for next with sights set on a return to the Mountain West Championship game and a birth into the NCAA Tournament.
